Enter The World Of Adidas

From its humble origins of football boots handmade in the Dassler family laundry room in Herzogenaurach to worldwide brand recognition, Adidas has always stood for performance and collaboration. This is a tour through their history, looking at the lines (and the stripes) that built a god tier brand.

#1 - Adidas Soccer

It all started with the (European!) football boot: Adi Dassler, a keen soccer player himself, got his start in the field engineering performance footwear for football and then track, eventually winning feedback, endorsement and exposure from world class athletes. And Adidas’ soccer boots are still sharp as ever today.

#2 - Adidas Sneakers

Sneakers grew out of sports, and Adidas illustrates this perfectly: The Samba, 1950, a football training shoe. Stan Smith, ‘65, tennis. Nizza, ‘75, basketball. Today, though, sneakers are an industry, culture and world of their own, and the rich variety of Adidas’ freshest models underscores that.

#3 - Adidas Originals

Adidas Originals is the heritage athletic line, exclusively emblazoned with the Trefoil logo. Today, it’s synonymous with quality clothes imbued with retro street culture and lifestyle: classic sneakers, jerseys, and the signature tracksuits that hark back to the original 1973 Beckenbauer campaign.

#4 - Adidas Boxing

1971 cemented Adidas’ status in boxing forever, when both Muhammed Ali and his opponent Joe Frazier wore Adidas boxing boots in the ‘Fight of the Century.’ Today the three stripes adorn gloves, bags and boots in boxing gyms all over the world.

#5 - Adidas Skate

Skatewear has been defining streetwear for decades, and Adidas’ shoe and skatewear lines count among the most widely respected in the scene - endorsed by a 20+ year running partnership with Mark Gonzales himself as well as recent collabs with Palace and Tyshawn Jones.

#6 - Y-3

In 2001, Yohji Yamamoto, a Japanese avant garde fashion designer, became the first long-standing collaborator of Adidas. The Y-3 line is built on fusing his progressive Japanese couture with Adidas’ technical philosophy, the result being a modern, smart, innovative streetwear brand. Discover it here.

#7 - Adidas x Stella McCartney

For more than 10 years, British fashion designer Stella McCartney has been collaborating with Adidas on a comprehensive range of fashionable, athletic, innovative sportswear. The fact that today, fashionistas literally everywhere work out in these sneakers, leggings and tops proves the collab’s success.

#8 - Adidas x Jeremy Scott

Jeremy Scott is known for being the creative director of Moschino, for his collaborations with legends like Cardi B, Beyoncé and Madonna, and for his extraordinary work with Adidas: Originals tracksuits x pop art mashups, rainbow Wings and, of course, the stuffed gorilla sneakers. Just floored.

#9 - Adidas x Pharrell

Rapper, songwriter, and producer, founder of premium streetwear and sneaker labels Billionaire Boys Club and Icecream, Pharrell Williams was well-established in the scene already when his collaborations with Adidas began in 2014. His sharp, bright color trim Originals jackets and fresh knitwear sneakers have gone on to see massive demand.

#10 - Adidas x You Name It

Adidas has been open to input from independent pros since Adi Dassler was touring Germany quizzing athletes in the 1930s, and that continues today in myriad jaw-dropping collab collections: BAPE camo jackets, Raf Simons and Alexander Wang sneakers and Gosha hoodies, among many more 🔥

#11 - Adidas Meets Fantasy

Looking to the future, Adidas is establishing itself in the world of pop culture, so far via high profile lines for Star Wars, Marvel, and Dragon Ball Z. Stickers and rucksacks complement the bold branded sneakers, jackets and tees, hinting at where Adidas will kick off to from here 🌌
